I haven't posted anything here in... I don't know. Over a year, for sure. And I'm not going to post much this time, either. I only have one thing to say:

I have the most awesome friends and I am very thankful for them. I may even cry over their existence in a minute here. They know who they are and I love them to bits. And I just felt like I needed to share that fact.

Soo... when was the last time I posted here again? Who cares, honestly?

It's not like I have anything fascinating and infinitely worth discussing at the moment, either. I was just suddenly struck by the urge to say that origami waterbombs are awesome. Origami-a-day calendar = best calendar ever. I'm sure those word-a-day ones are quite edifying and illuminating, but there's just something incredibly fun about my origami one. When else am I going to get the opportunity to make this stuff without developing a serious origami hobby?

It's a pity I don't have a digital camera anymore, I'd take pictures.

Gah. That sucked. I just spent forever trying to remember the exact spelling of my LJ password, because I'd changed my e-mail address recently and I couldn't retrieve my password because I hadn't updated my LJ account with the new e-mail address. Sending it to the old e-mail address wouldn't have been at all helpful.

What else did I want to say? Meh. It doesn't matter too much, I suppose. I still have to wrap at least one Christmas present and it's Christmas Eve. And I've already gotten two presents ahead of time. Which I didn't mind at all, really. I have to say that under the Christmas tree looks a little sparse, but I'm used to too many years of gigantic family gatherings, I think. Plus, my sister was lazy and the stuff she ordered isn't even here yet, so all her presents to other people will be gifted late.

Well... guess I should go make soup or something. Tomorrow will actually be a decent meal, for a change. I didn't buy a huge turkey, so at least I should be spared endless turkey leftovers of suck. It should be... turkey roast, mashed potatoes, dressing/stuffing, some sort of green vegetables (peas or california blend or something), hmm... oh, fresh-raised dinner rolls, and cherry pie. I might be missing something, but I'm not sure.

11:51 am - Fucking Bitch...
Okay. People might not know this, but I hate this one aunt of mine. She's always coming up here without asking us first (she just informs us she's showing up and then does). And she's here today. I was almost convinced that she wasn't coming since she didn't show up until 8:30 last night. But the thing is... I'm moving. And we were supposed to move Monday, but then other calculations were made and it was discovered that we would be better off moving today. Except not everything was packed and we now have to scramble because there's 18 hours fewer to move than people were expecting.

And so what has my aunt done, having inserted herself into the household? Last night, while we were loading part of the trailer in the dark, she was sitting on her ass cross-stitching on the house. And today? Well, today she's "helping"... so far I've seen her wash the walls in the kitchen. As if we'd planned on doing that in the first place. And asked pointless questions about food in the freezer we're not going to be eating. It's quite useless. Now, however, I really need to go pack again. The more time it takes us to pack stuff, the later it'll be when we get to the hotel, after all.

I just need to keep repeating the mantra "She's not coming with us"... but it's not helping very much.

3:59 am - 50 New Recipes in 2006
Following a small trend started by [info]fitfool here, I am going to try to make 50 new recipes this year. Given my normal cooking habits this shouldn't be too hard, but I am starting slightly behind. Of course, in my first post, I'm going to catch up with about a month's worth of recipes all at once, so I won't be very far beind once I type up this whole huge post.

So. On to recipes I've tried lately (apologies in advance to all the various entities and people from whom I pilfered recipes without remembering where they came from).

Wheat Bread )

Sour Cream Pound Cake )

Triple Chocolate Cheesecake Bars )

And finally, last but still tasty...

10:50 pm - Fucking North Dakota
Things I've learned in roughly 24 hours of driving hither and yon through North Dakota to Canada and back, repeatedly.

1. The US Customs people hate me.
2. ND sucks. All through North Dakota, there are giant white billboards that actually seek to admonish drivers. These billboards all have categorical statements such as "Smile." "Be nice." "Be polite." "Be Grateful." "Do your best." etc. All complete with "This is an imperative command" periods at the end. These billboards annoy the crap out of me every time I see them. And going back and forth to Canada four times mean that I have seen them more often in a short period of time than I ever wish to. I'm not sure who these billboards are supposed to be directed towards, but... gah.
3. The drive through North Dakota is extremely boring. Like, "God, why can't I go faster!?!" boring.
4. The wintertime road in Canada both sucks AND is incredibly slow. Perhaps it's just a comparative thing... the speed limit in the US on the Interstate is 75. I generally go about 80 mph down the road because, well... pfft. I can. The speed limit in Canada is 100 kilometers per hour. That is essentially 62.5 mph. The difference in speeds is teeth-gratingly large. In addition, the winter roads blow chunks in Canada... oh, the bumpy lines I have seen and rattled across.

P.S. I lost my book this morning and I can't find it. This seriously bothers me. I want "The Decoy Princess" back, dammit!

3:49 am - Entertainment
The most entertaining thing that happened on Valentine's Day was this. And it had more to do with my mind than anything else.

I went to go see "Brokeback Mountain" with a (female) friend wearing a black t-shirt with sparkly sky blue letters that says, "Explain to me Again Why I need a boyfriend."

And I amused myself to no end contemplating just how many people would assume that I was a lesbian on a date... :D

P.S. Brokeback Mountain has an amazing amount of nakedness, of both genders. But the funny thing is that almost none of the male nakedness is directly related to sex, while all the female nakedness is. I bet that was on puprose, although I don't know why.

Hell, I'm just amused at the description. And it'd probably be true, if I was suddenly catapulted eons into a future created by George Lucas. Which, really isn't likely to happen, so I'm safe.

6:57 am - So far...
Things I've learned thus far:
Novels require a lot of fucking names.
I hate naming things.
It is extremely stressful to write 1667 words daily when you are accustomed to finding wordcounts of 500 to be a good day's worth of progress.
Nanowrimo has been going for 31 hours and I am already roughly 700 words behind my quota. For yesterday. This does not bode well.
Any other day not in Nanowrimo progress of 928 words would be considered extremely good.
I am fairly determined not to go to sleep until I have at least met my quota for Nov. 1st.
I may be awake for a very long time.

4:33 am - Crazy
I must be crazy. I signed up for Nanowrimo. Anyone who knows me and my writing habits will realize why this is a crazy idea.

I'm supposed to be ready to start writing a novel in roughly 18 hours. I have only the thinnest semblance of a plot, only one character even semi-well created, and a fairly solid race for the only character I have semi-firmly affixed in my brain. Someone get the straight jacket.

So I'm sitting on a library computer terminal again and I was going to get some writing done for once (a shock, I know, but they don't even have minesweeper, what else can I do?), only to discover that the copy of Alana's Despair, Ch. 4 that I had was old, so I couldn't work on it. And now, I get to leave. Yay!

I said I'd post it. So... voila. Please do let me know how you liked it. It's about 2200 words, so if you don't want to read something that long, just skip this. It's only silly, anyway.

Well, except for the title. And whatever editing I do. So the word count might change a little, but after 600-some words written, the completed story word count is....
Zokutou word meter
2,214 / 2,214
(100.0%)

And now, I might go to bed. My head is killing me.

12:07 pm - Still Not Done...
Well, it's still not quite finished. I've got a couple things left to put in there, although I have done the battle, but as it stands:

Zokutou word meter
1,559 / 1,500
(103.0%)

And yes, I know I said 1000 was my goal, but I made a new one, I guess. For those paying attention, it means I've written 463 words so far this period of wakefulness. Which... is really close to a good "normal" day by my standards. Something that I haven't had in quite a long time. So I'm pleased, if tired.
